I'm not doing NaNoWriMo, not formally or properly. I've got too many WIPs as it is, and I'm too addicted to both editing as I go and jumping between stories to really feel motivated by the standard formula.

But I figure I might as well see if I can use the month many others are using for writing to see how much progress I can make. So I'm noting my current counts here, and I'll try to check back at the end of the month to see where I've gotten.

(I should note that I was inspired by a similar idea from bratfarrar over at writers_lair.)

Some of those titles are makeing me crazy with curiosity. 0.o

Hee. I thought about adding notes about the ones that conform to specific tropes, but then I thought that would be much less fun. Sadly, some of them probably won't go anywhere because they were fundamentally ways of figuring out the characters and I don't think the original plots really work ... which annoys me no end, because there are pieces I want to keep from them and can't figure out how to transplant to another plot! Which is why I keep them around — either I'll change my mind and decide I can make the plot work after all, or one of the prompt communities will fuse with one of them in my mind and give me a new direction. To be seen.

That's not to say that if anything in particular makes you raise an eyebrow, I'm averse to saying something about it. Not necessarily much, mind you, but something. Heh. Anyway, thanks for letting me know I've succeeded at least a little bit of tantalizing!

I've got a folder just for those little bits and bobs that I love, but that lack a home. :) It's a good thing to keep around!

Re: Titles, I'm particularly curious about "Antigonish" and the lengthy "Resolve/Reprise" - care to drop any more tantalising hints about either of those?

"Antigonish" is a post-Trinity fic, because those are like ... ahem, opinions: everybody's got one, right? And the title is from the poem, but I don't want to say more than that. It's turning out a lot drier than I like my post-Trinity fics, and I'd rather be working on the other one you mention, but I feel like I could knock a big chunk out of this so it's my most current one.

"Resolve/Reprise" is one file but will be two stories. I wrote "Remorse" thinking it was a one-shot, but after I published I started having ideas about what comes next. So I've worked out the general idea, and I think it works best in three parts total ("Remorse" being the first). I'm handling parts two ("Resolve") and three ("Reprise") the way "Back to the Future" did, producing them together for separate posting. I'm calling the series the three compose "Broken Mirror", and I'm mostly happy with how the structure is turning out (when I'm not feeling all pretentious).

Feh. Silly clock saying it's bedtime when I'm all motivated to write now!

That's a lot of words hanging in "progress" (read: limbo). Your a serial starter! Not that I can talk. From this glass house, I can see the 42,344 words of my only half-ish of the Great American Novel... Wow. I will never find the time to write the other half of that... :'/

I will mention that five of those have real prospects of completion in the near future (you know, within a year or so — glares at "Near Point", started in 1995). One will either turn into something real or end up as a brief bit o' fluff, and the other three fanfictions are deeply flawed but have a lot I want to rescue, whether by finding a way to patch them or by gutting them for later works. So, yeah, I'm all butterfly approach, but I'm actually getting somewhere with it, so I'm happy. (I'm not very good at concentrating on a single thing start to finish. You're shocked, I know.)

It's a real shame that you don't have time on yours. I want you to finish it!

Wow, that's serious prolificity up there. You are a role model.

Did you have a writer buddy for the month? I managed to secure a writer buddy who was doing NaNo. She smoked me in the word count, of course, but just by our checking in regularly I've managed to complete 2 WIPs that were hanging over me like Cormier's guillotines.

It was a lucky accident, but if for whatever reason she decides not to do it again I think I'll deliberately seek one out next year.

(Speaking of next years, happy belated. I hope it was sparkly.)

writerjc and I had talked about cheering each other on, but the month kind of disappared on me. Feh. I wrote almost nothing. I have excuses, but still. Annoying. Role model fail! Heh.
