Heh. I figure that a shared culture has its drawbacks as well as advantages — even socially oblivious, Rodney probably has a much better idea of how to go for the jugular in a variety of ways with fellow Earthlings.

I adore the idea that this would explain his being more unbearable at the SGC. Perfect! (It's kind of the inverse of what I wrote — he hasn't had character growth, necessarily; he's just been (relatively) detoxing.)

I think they could actually adjust to mellow!Rodney and even have fun "springing" him on unsuspecting others, but yeah, it definitely would take adjustment. Anyway, thank you!
