I really enjoyed this. As a physician myself I know how difficult it can be to track down a specific rare allergy, and if someone has more than one (especially if they interact with each other) it can be a nightmare. Poor old Rodney seems to have got the short end of the stick here - most of his personality an allergic reaction? Identity crisis here we come. Although, being Rodney, he may well just breeze through the whole situation and leave the angsting to other people.

Being a doctor I always shudder a bit when fics give Carson too much authority over his patients - IRL there is no such thing as "doctors orders" (with a few exceptions in the case of severe mental illness) and any and all treatment is entirely up to the patient themselves, even if the patients choices are detrimental to their own health. Normally fics where Carson confines someone to the infirmary or their quarters (or offworld in this case) or does not "allow" the patient the right to have a laptop or work, or orders them searched for contraband, or medicates them without consent drive me up the wall (not that all these things happened in this piece). Any doctor who tried to do such a thing would be deluding themselves and the patient would be under absolutely no compulsion to obey them. Ant attempt to enforce said orders could lead to the doctor having their license revoked. I think that this fic managed to avoid pushing too many of those buttons, even though it hit on a couple of the problem points. Mainly because in all other ways Carson seemed very professional and it didn't seem as if Rodney would be prevented from leaving if he really wanted to (at least thats the impression I got, I could be wrong).

I love fics that stick in a bit of medical detail, and this was a very good one.
