Stupidity day

I don't use text messaging, but apparently I can't turn off the ability to receive text messages. Today I got two (one message split, apparently); the first started "Hey I got your number from a friend of mine but I bet you can't guess who I am." It then invited me to ... communicate with them in some form or other, I dunno, I deleted that part first.

Who the hell would answer a message that started that way?? "Why sure, random stalker and/or spammer, I'd love to start a blind relationship with you!"

People answer messages that start that way all the time. Witness the success of the "I LOVE YOU" virus. People love attention.

Do you have to pay money to receive text messages, or is that free? If it costs, it might even have been illegal for the sender to send this to you, assuming it was bulk mail.

I have to pay per message, which was why I asked my carrier how to shut them off. They're just rare enough for me not to bother pursuing it.
