Change of Plans

I love me some Joe Flanigan, but wow, this movie is so bad. (That is in no way his fault.) I figured it would tickle that part of me that has a weakness for old-school "warm" films, the kind I can only enjoy now if I don't really think about the obnoxious and/or offensive normativities they parrot, but no — it's just not good. It's just so profoundly false throughout, I can't even.

I didn't watch, couldn't bring myself to. So glad I didn't.

For some things that we watch for the talent more than the, ah, not-always-fantastic writing, it seems better to just leave the sound off and y'know, enjoy the view... (and maybe wait for someone to make a vid that just has the best bits of the scenes with the preferred talent and some nice music without the bad plot?) ;)

I think that would've been the better option, but I got stuck in train-wreck mode. He was quite pretty, though. :)

Well, pretty counts! :)

Aw, darn. I was looking forward to some new Flanigan. :(

It is a shame. You could always just watch the bits he's in, though — especially if someone is kind enough to edit just those together. You don't really need the surrounding plot; you can just view it as "Scenes from That Time Advanced-Mathematical Genius John Retired to Private Industry and Inherited Some Kids", really. (I mean, seriously, he's a former Air Force pilot who now designs experimental planes and has won the Collier ... and who still wants to fly. Either he's John with the never-quite-canon Math Genius add-on, or he's John with Rodney's math and engineering skills, but either way he comes across very much as John Sheppard here ... at least to me.)

Oooh, now I really want someone to edit those bits and maybe add some Rodney! As a very AU fanwork of say, [livejournal.com profile] toomuchplor's How Not to Fly (http://archiveofourown.org/series/5062) series? :)
