Sunday snippet 12/1: Stuff's getting surreal

Previously in Sunday Snippet, I had completed a first draft and was getting feedback.

Today, I posted the first chapter. My notes on it are a Thing of Ridiculous, but enh. This is weird and oddly formatted and a world of telling-over-showing, but I don't even care. I have it split up into 28 chapters, and I plan to post one per day. Because I'll likely be making very minor tweaks, and it's hard to get a wordcount in my current format, I'll wait until the end to see what AO3 says; it's in the 93,000 word range, I think.

If I get any hits or feedback, nifty; if not, that's cool too, because it's just for me.

But then -- plot twist -- I'M ACCIDENTALLY LIKE 95% INTO A SEQUEL. It's currently at 21,887 words! It's set in a surreal mindscape and it goes super dark places! What is even happening! A snippet from it is below.

But now I've got my friend's Lore Olympus fic to read, and Frith has finished Goblin Fruit so I have that to read -- all of the lovely things to read! -- so we'll see how that one goes. It's not like there's a rush to finish it, since posting my first fic will take 28 days if I stick to my current schedule. (Which I may not bother with, idk.)
It's Jonathan's older self. Jonathan stands, narrowing his eyes. "Oh. Is this you replacing me?"

Older-him frowns a little. "You mean replacing you back? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that was a couple of days ago. So why …" He turns, looking around. "What even is this place?"

What, is Jonathan supposed to know? "More magic?" he asks, irritated.

Older-him rolls his eyes, but it looks like that's just because he's annoyed to be here, not at Jonathan specifically. "With my luck? Probably."

They stare at each other for a few seconds.

"So what now?" Jonathan asks finally.

"Why would I know? None of this was my idea." He looks at the couch. "Maybe we're supposed to sit down and discuss our differences and hug it out or something."

They look at each other and then, by mutual consent, edge a few inches further apart.
