Sunday snippet 12/22: NP: Shovel
I didn't post anything last week, because I hadn't written much new; I could've pulled something further from my weird mindscape thing, but there doesn't seem to be a ton of advantage to piecing that out.
But yesterday I wrote a little short piece in the same 'verse (which I've now named "Near Point", which was going to be the title of my original-fic novel back in the '90s). This short piece is set in 2003. It's got adult-Jonathan in it, so folks who really want to avoid any kind of personality spoilers might want to wait until they've had a chance to encounter him in "Sound of Silver".
I don't know yet how much more I'll write in this 'verse. I'm interested to note that original fic is against the AO3 TOS, wtf; I think "Sound of Silver" technically might slide in under the "yes and no" equivocation, because it's written in such a fanfic style, but ... meh. Curious where else folks post to, for works that are too long for DW. I'm not on (and don't want to be on) ff.net. For now, I'll stick with AO3 and just make sure to download PDFs of completed works, but it might be good to line up a backup option.
"I fucking hate doing this," Jonathan mutters. Then he drops his head and pulls on the persona he just thinks of as the snake.
They've never considered testing it, but Jonathan is pretty sure that Tonya could put him on his ass if they ever had to fight one another. He suspects she thinks the same. He outmasses her, but not by enough to make a real difference, and she knows ways to make that work against him. So unless he really took her by surprise, her far better training means he would lose. She's been studying proper self defense since her early teens, back when Jonathan was just getting in the occasional schoolyard scrap.
This persona scares the crap out of her. Even though she knows him and knows he would never hurt her, and even though she's got to be confident she can hold her own, he's still able to get past her certainty about all of those things, make her fall back a step into an automatic defensive position.
Mark has never seen this persona and he never fucking will.

I don't recall hearing of a single instance where an original work was removed from AO3, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
